Call for Submissions: Paper Blog Blitz

The Chicago Underground Library editors (Meredith, Thùy, Eric) have explored the idea of having a Paper Blog in the past during one of our brainstorming blog meetings. Meredith pointed out the seeming irony of being a physical repository that preserves print materials, and the fact that we were using a virtual media, a blog, to spread the word. So how about a Paper Blog?

Cataloging Czar Dave and Margaret, our web developer maven and cover girl for our Columbia Chronicle article, were present to lend their technical support and pitch in a word or two on their thoughts about the Paper Blog and how we would accept paper entries that would be posted to the digital blog, still preserving some of the intrinsic qualities of the printed material. And then as our meetings have a tendency of doing, the topic got side-tracked to talks about pogs and what the hell they were and the Paper Blog was shuffled about, inexplicably pushed to the back of our minds.

Needless to say, the theme for The Printers’ Ball, Print <3 Digital, has got the blog editors blitzing up a storm as it’s now given us a chance to announce the Paper Blog:

Calling on all artists and writers, ranters and ravers

The Chicago Underground Library will post anything you send us on paper in response to The Printers’ Ball theme, Print <3 Digital. Want to express your thoughts in papercut…that would be fabulous! Want to do a mini-comic love story on the saga of Print and Digital…we love it! Got your masterpiece scribed on the napkin that you just used to wipe that dribble of food off of your chin…we’ll take it!

Just send it to:

Chicago Underground Library Blog Editors
621 W. Belmont Ave., 2nd Floor
Chicago, IL 60657

OR email us a photo or scan (JPEG) of your paper creation to:

editors@underground-library.org

And if you decide to email us a JPEG instead of giving us your paper original, aka the hard copy, do not throw it away as we would like to submit it to our Paper Blog art show.

Size of the original should be no larger than an 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of paper. Smaller is better in this case as it will have the better image resolution when viewed from the blog.

If we get a good response from this call, we plan to continue the Paper Blog past Printers’ Ball and will be open to any submissions on paper on any topic. We are also tossing around the idea of possibly producing a zine of Paper Blog submissions, at the end of the year, so the process could go from print->digital->print.

<3 the editors
